The Bayshore Marathon starts at 7:15 AM on the grounds of Northwestern Michigan College, then winds through one mile of residential neighborhoods. The majority of the race will follow the waterfront along the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay including the beautiful Birchwood Drive, East Shore Road, Center Road (M-37) and Bluff Road. The course is flat, 100% paved and shaded along much of the route.

Highlights range from a carnival and parade to all-day activities, including sandcastle building and live music. The event closes on Saturday with an unforgettable fireworks show. The small town festival generates nearly 25,000 attendees.

The ninth annual Traverse City Film Festival will be held July 30-August 4, 2013. The festival brings in filmmakers from all around the world to Northern Michigan and has quickly become one of the largest film festivals in the Midwest. 2011 generated more than 128,000 admissions. Each year, the festival also presents classic movies free of charge on a giant, inflatable outdoor screen overlooking Grand Traverse Bay in the Open Space Park at dusk.
